Family Support Centre Concludes National GBV Sensitisation Training with Strong Commitments from Provincial Leaders

The Family Support Centre (FSC) has successfully completed a four-day National Gender-Based Violence sensitisation training in Honiara held from 26 to 29 May at the Outback Holiday Inn conference room.

During the workshop, Honourable Premiers and provincial representatives committed to:

Collaborating with relevant GBV service providers, including FSC, and other stakeholders to address gender-based violence.

Reviewing and strengthening provincial policies to promote zero tolerance for domestic violence.

Sharing resources and supporting the implementation of community-level activities that improve survivors’ access to GBV services.

Working towards signing Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs) to establish clear pathways for collaboration with FSC.

The training workshop was attended by: Premiers from Temotu, Central Islands, and Rennell and Bellona Provinces. The Deputy Premier from Makira-Ulawa Province. Provincial Secretaries from Choiseul, Western, Central Islands, and Temotu Provinces. Deputy Provincial Secretaries from Makira-Ulawa and Malaita Provinces. Provincial Women’s Desk Officers from Malaita, Central Islands, and Guadalcanal Provinces. National and Provincial Planning Officers from MDPAC, Temotu, and Western Province (Noro) and newly recruited FSC staff members.

At the conclusion of the training, a press conference was held where the Honourable Premiers shared their key takeaways and outlined their commitments to addressing domestic violence within their respective provinces.

The training workshop was proudly funded by the UN Trust Fund, UN Women, the Fiji Women’s Crisis Centre, and the Ministry of Women, Youth, Children and Family Affairs (MWYCFA) through its Women’s Development Division.

The lead facilitator for the four-day training was Ms Shamima Ali, Coordinator of the Fiji Women’s Crisis Centre, who shared her extensive experience and expertise in addressing gender-based violence and supporting survivors.

The Family Support Centre Board of Management extends its sincere appreciation to all participants, including provincial leaders, representatives from relevant government ministries in Honiara, and members of the media who attended and supported the workshop and final-day press conference.
